Getting too caught up

Life in fast-paced Singapore is no bed of roses. We have often heard the exhortation that we have no choice but to move this way in order to remain ahead of competition and ensure our survival. Thus, many of us are caught up in a rat-race, spending disproportionate amounts of our time working or studying. But are we getting anywhere? Are we just like a hamster running on its exercise wheel, expending all our energies but getting no where? I believe that in order to avoid ending up in the confines of a "cage", we have to take time off to reflect. An army colonel once commented to me, "There is a difference between having 5 years of experience and having 1 year of experience repeated 5 times." I guess that difference lies in pausing occasionally to reflect on my actions and to review my goals in life. There is more to life than just work or studies. Life is tough - Pray hard

I got up early one morning and rushed right into the day. I had so much to accomplish that I didn't have time to pray. Problems just tumbled about me, and heavier came each task; "Why doesn't God help me?" I wondered. He answered, "You didn't ask." I wanted to see joy and beauty, but the day toiled on gray and bleak; I wondered why God didn't show me. He said, "But you didn't seek." I tried to come into God's presence; I used all my keys at the lock. God gently and lovingly chided, "My child, you didn't knock." I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day; I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray.
